Vitamins for Diabetes

Posted by in About diabetes

There are certain vitamins for diabetics available and some of these will be greatly beneficial, but it is highly recommended that you contact your doctor beforehand because it depends a great deal on your treatment.
Here are the main vitamins and minerals for diabetics that are suitable

Vitamin E
This particular vitamin is probably one of the most useful because it helps with the absorption of insulin. Biotin is an enzyme which is found in Vitamin E and this helps with the glucose process. A supplement of this will improve the concentration of Glucokinase, found in the liver. This will improve glucose metabolism.

Vitamin C
A dose of Vitamin C everyday may lower the amount of Sorbitol in type 2 diabetics. Sorbitol is a sugar, which can lead to kidney damage and retinopathy for example. Vitamins for Type 2 diabetics are more or less the same as that of Type 1, but Vitamin C is one that everyone will agree tht really agrees with everyone.  It will improve glucose tolerance so it well worth the effort looking into getting a supplement of this.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is one of the most talked about vitamins around with good reason. It is extremely advantageous whether or not you have diabetes. There is no doubt that this is one of the best vitamins for diabetics and it can help with many things, such as neuropathy, which will cause damage to the nervous system. This is common in more severe case.

Zinc
Research also tells us that a deficiency in Zinc can lead to diabetes. This is one of the main elements that can help with insulin metabolism. Vitamin supplements for diabetics will usually include Zinc and diabetics are advised to include this nutrient into their diet.

Insitol
This is another useful supplement that is also there to help with the functioning of the nerves as well as contributing to healthy cell membranes. Alpha-lipoic acid(ACA) and Gamma-linlenic acid(GLA) are also supplements that help with this function. Some of these properties can be found in primrose oil as well as black currant seed oil.

Magnesium
Most diabetics have low levels of Magnesium. A big drop in this decreases the blood sugar levels in diabetes type 2. Insulin secretion in the pancreas as well as a resistance to insulin in the body’s tissues becomes evident. People who are deficient to Magnesium will have problems with their eyes. With pregnant women the lack of Magnesium may contribute to certain birth defects. Cardiovascular diseases can also be caused by a deficiency like this.
